No one should ever have too much power. It absolutely corrupts, and no one can be trusted with it. That is true regardless how moral one is. The people who long for power most often are those who can be trusted with it the least.

Democracy only thrives if everyone can be held accountable for their actions. We’re here because we don’t like being subject to absolute authority. That is the most American thing.

We’re trying to have a democratic society here, and at least six of the members of the Supreme Court missed the memo. A republic, if we can keep it, Franklin quipped. It feels harder to hold on.

It’s not hope when there’s certainty. Move towards the future you want, one step at a time.
