We make “failure” an end instead of part of the process. When children learn to walk (or do anything, for that matter), we don’t write them off the first time they stagger and fall. And yet somehow, when we are adults, a failed attempt marks the end of our potential in a particular area of life. How sad we can’t offer ourselves and each other the grace to stagger a bit as we try to grow.
